A phone filming checklist for renovation site footage
Good site footage comes from a few habits: clean the lens, film in good light, hold shots steady for several seconds, record clear sound and ask permission before filming a client’s home.
Before you start
- Clean the lens and check storage and battery
- Ask the homeowner’s permission to film
- Remove personal items, documents and address details from view
- Follow site safety rules first
While filming
- Film wide, medium and close shots of the same scene
- Hold each shot steady for several seconds
- Film the same angle before and after the work where possible
- Record short spoken explanations in a quiet corner
After filming
Name files by project and date, keep the originals, and send them to your editor quickly while details are fresh.
Why this matters
Clean, steady, permitted footage can be reused across portfolio posts, education videos and follow-up messages, so one visit feeds weeks of content.
Questions about this topic
Vertical or horizontal?
Choose based on where it will be posted. Many social platforms favour vertical; websites often use horizontal. Some shots can be filmed both ways.
What if the site is noisy?
Record your explanation away from the noise or add a voiceover later.
